New ... we stock railway books!

After collecting railway books since I was a teen-ager, and from the suggestion of two friends, we are now stocking railway books. We carry all of the Plateway Press books and some Atlantic Publishers' titles.  Our first featured book is exceptional!

We are featuring Marc Horovitz' new book  A Passion for Steam. This hardbound book is full of photographs and drawing explaining each part of a small scale live steam locomotive and showcasing many historical and classic 16mm and Gauge One locomotives from Marc's own collection. A highly recommended book!

Our first shipment is sold out, but our second shipment is due now 12th January. $62.95 plus p&p.

Other Railway Books.....

New from Platway Press in mid-November is the reprint of The Origins of the Garratt Locomotive by Richard L. Hills. This softbound book traces the history of the development of the Garratt locomotive with many historic pictures. An ideal book for the railfan and the modeller alike. $19.95 plus p&p.

We also are featuring a delightful little book Our Model Railway and All About It. The title may be a bit misleading since this book is not about model railways at all, but covers the building and workings of the industrial railway serving the brewer, Bass, Ratcliff & Gretton. Originally published in 1926, it was republished by The Bass Museum in 1977.  This is a little book, well read in a quiet evening (with perhaps a Bass ale), having a dozen or so photographs and a map of the complex. Looking for the basis of an industrial model railway, this book will give you plenty of food for thought. $8.95 plus p&p. Please note that supplies are limited.

Three books which tell the story of the railways of World War I from Plateway Press. These softbound books are full of pictures and descriptive text. With more and more models becoming available for War Department locomotives and rolling stock, these books are full of useful material for the modeller.

Railways at War  primarily chronicles the locomotives and rolling stock used by England in Europe during World War I. $19.95 plus postage and packing.

Railways at War 2 covers many of the military units using railways during The Great War, including English, Canadian, Australian and American companies. $ 24.95 plus postage and packing

Light Track from Arras is the remembrances of author T. R. Heritage who served in the 19th and 31st Light Railway Operating Companies in 1917 and 1918.                  $ 18.95    plus packing and post.

The Early Years of Motor Rail is the story of one of England’s most prodigious industrial locomotive builders. Hardbound, 116 pages with photos.  $47.95 plus packing and post.

Roundhouse.. A Battery Locomotive

       cc01.jpg (49467 bytes)

We've always been a fan of battery-powered diesel-outline locomotives in SM32, and this first offering from Roundhouse is a dandy!

CRICCIETH CASTLE is an 0-6-0 outside framed chassis with high quality Buhler motor and precision made steel and bronze gear set. It is fitted with full radio control for both speed and direction (and sound if fitted). Power is supplied by rechargeable NiMh batteries (8 on loco) for excellent running time, complete with fast charger for in-situ charging. Other features include directional head lights and colour side lights,  gauge adjustable between 32mm and 45mm gauge, insulated wheels for operation on railways utilizing track power, and fully glazed windows and removable roof to access detailed interior. CRICCIETH CASTLE is available with optional sound system featuring realistic engine start up and running plus air brakes and horn all operable from R/C handset.
